Our
Vision
For everyone who comes to the Inn at the Lake to feel fully accepted, fully loved, and find their story welcomed and valued as a thread in the larger story.
To create safe spaces where people of all backgrounds, incomes, and identities can come to find rest, feed their souls, rejuvenate their creativity, and form new connections across old divides.
The
Mission
Currently, our mission expresses itself in these areas:
-
Creative Hospitality – We offer affordable overnight accommodations to everyone. Included in the cost of a room is a hearty gourmet breakfast, the warmth of our lodge to use for playing cards or games or just hanging out, and guidance and recommendations for guests looking to explore our area. We prepare campfires several times a week, usually with campfire treats and good conversation. We host special events so members of the local community and our guests can experience various forms of art and music: our Brunch with a View; Music and Poetry with a View; Art with a View; and Sip and Paint with a View. These gatherings serve up a variety of opportunities for guests and locals to enjoy our spectacular setting and provide an eager audience for our artist partners that need a platform for expressing and sharing their creative talents.
-
We want to break down the silos of creativity and awaken new conversations between established artists, emerging artists, hobbyists and art appreciators. Even when it’s not an official “art time” at the Inn, creative expression pervades everything we do, from preparing delicious breakfasts to fireside chats to evening concerts to gallery showings to poetry readings and more.

-
Natural - Our grounds are situated within the beautiful natural oasis of Lake San Cristobal. Here you can experience the majesty of the high country at all levels. From hanging out with friends on our patio, to relaxing in Adirondack chairs outside your room enjoying the spectacular view of the lake, to paddle boarding on the water, to four-wheeling over many miles of backcountry roads, to wildflower and wildlife viewing, to casual hikes, to scaling a fourteener, to fly-fishing small streams or trophy trout rivers; here you can find your own healing retreat from the burdens of everyday life.

-
Spiritual - We believe that creativity is a spiritual exercise, and that taking the time to connect with our inner truth is vital to forming a healthy, whole relationship with the world. We celebrate various spiritual perspectives, and we seek to create safe places where each person can find, and express if they wish to, their own unique story.

We are committed to diversity and economic accessibility, because we believe that forming heart-level connections with people outside our regular circles has the power to heal much of the social discord in our world. The greatest gift we can give one another and ourselves, is to be fully present for each other’s stories. We invite you to come share your journey and travel with us to new perspectives and experiences.
The Burrow Collective
We operate doing business as The Inn at The Lake, but the name of our 501(c)(3) corporation is The Burrow Collective Inc. That name was inspired by the Harry Potter stories, in which the heroes find themselves, when not at their school, at the Weasley residence. It is a place of respite and safety for them, where they find comfort in the cozy home and wonderful food prepared for them by Mrs. Weasley. The home is widely known as “the burrow”. We want The Inn at The Lake to be a place of respite, a cozy place where guests are treated like family, where they find comfort in the warmth of the hosts, the beauty of the space and the delicious breakfasts they are served.

The word “Collective” is a reference to the fact that we are a gathering of creatives. We welcome all to join us, but we hope to especially encourage creatives from all disciplines and genres to come to the Inn for inspiration, encouragement and an opportunity to share their talents, passions and connect with a wider audience of art appreciators of all types.
Who We Are
We are a network of artists, activists, healers and seekers led by Robert and Ginny Burroughs, based at the Inn at The Lake, a ten-room lodge nestled at one end of Lake San Cristobal in the majestic San Juan Mountain Range of southwestern Colorado. We came together in 2020 to expand the Inn into a new kind of creative and spiritual home away from home, founded on mindful diversity, radical inclusivity and a spirit of interconnectedness. Here, everyone has a seat at the table.

The Burrow Collective welcomes everyone, right where they are. From summer vacations, to wedding ceremonies and receptions, to family reunions, to artist residencies, to retreats of all kinds, we seek to create a warm vibrant space where people from all walks of life can find rest, inspiration, and friendship with fellow sojourners.
